In Anticipation of my Trip to Esalen
I will be spending this Labor Day weekend at Esalen Institute in Big Sur California. I’m excited about finally getting to see and experience this world-renowned place that’s been around for about 50 years. I’ll be driving up to Big Sur from LA with a close friend of mine who is as thrilled about being there as I am, perhaps more so since she’s experienced what Esalen has to offer before.
What exactly is Esalen? I think the following quote that I’ve pulled from their website says it pretty nicely:
“Esalen is a place with a global reach. In the words of Thomas Wolfe about America, It is a place where miracles not only happen, but where they happen all the time,” pretty vague, but intriguing nonetheless. I’m all for a miracle any day, any time, and of any kind.
And more specifically:
“Esalen is a leading center for exploring and realizing human potential through experience, education, and research. We work toward the realization of a more humane and all-embracing world.” And they have hot springs and massages! You found me out, I’m really just going for these two reasons alone – ha!
I actually keep forgetting what workshop we signed up for since we planned this vaca so long ago. What I’m also looking forward to is the drive up to Big Sur from LA, and exploring that part of the most beautiful state in the Nation.
Check back here next week and I’ll let you know what miracles I experienced…I’m anticipating many:)
